Nose Reshaping or Rhinoplasty Procedure
This surgery is used to reshape your nose so that it complements your other facial features.
The first step in planning your cosmetic surgery procedure is to meet with one of our plastic surgeons for a consultation. During this cosmetic surgery consultation, the plastic surgeon will discuss your objectives and expectations, provide a physical examination, and finally, advise you of any risks associated with your cosmetic surgery.
Indications
The most common indication for rhinoplasty is a pronounced nasal hump or enlarged tip of nose. This surgery may also be performed to improve the angle between the patient’s nose and upper lip.
Procedure
Incisions are usually made inside your nose to provide access to cartilage and bone which is cut and reshaped to alter the external appearance. The nasal bridge can be narrowed by moving the bone inward. In some instances, an open technique is required, using an incision on the underside of the nose (between the nostrils).
After Surgery
Some discomfort, swelling and bruising are normal, and your surgeon may place your nose in a nasal splint for a week or longer. For the first few days, your activity will be reduced, however in only a few weeks you can normally resume bending, lifting and exercising. There is little or no visible scarring. Please consult your surgeon for specific post-operative instructions.
- Your surgery will take approximately one to three hours.
- Expect a recovery period of approximately two to three weeks.
- Please arrange to have someone pick you up from our surgical centre following surgery.
- Avoid vigorous activity and bending your head for two to three weeks.
